Description
St. James is located in historical Port Gibson, Mississippi; the town General Grant said was too beautiful to burn. The congregation dates back to May of 1825 when the Rev. James Fox held services in Port Gibson and subsequently the Rev. James Pilmore. St. James was formally organized on April 9, 1826 by the Rev. Albert A. Mullerand was one of four congregations which participated in the founding of the Diocese of Mississippi at a convention in 1826. Port Gibson has been served by such notables as Tennessee Williams beloved maternal grandfather, the Rev. Walter E. Dakin; the Rev. John Maury Allin, later Bishop of Mississippi and then Presiding Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States, and by the Rev. Larry Maze who later became the Bishop of Arkansas and is recently retired.
