Description
Statue located in the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This bronze sculpture was created by sculptor Carlos Espino, where he concentrates on classical mythology, which can clearly be appreciated in this piece. It depicts Triton, a merman, son of Poseidon and Amphitrite (God and Goddess of the sea respectively) reaching out to a sea nymph (female spirit of sea waters), one of the fifty daughters of Nereus and Doris, sisters to Nerites.
For those that doubt the name of the statue, it has to be Triton, as Poseidon, though he also carried a trident, he was not a merman, whereas Triton was considered half man and half fish. For those that may think it is Neptune, this would not pan out as Nereid was in part of Greek mythology and Neptune is from the Roman mythology.
Proceeds from the sale of this photograph goes to help orphaned and abandoned children in Colombia South America.
