Taken at the Great Reno Ballon race during "Dawn Patrol." Every year five balloons take to the skies while it is still dark, followed by hundreds of balloons when the sun comes out.
The Great Reno Balloon Race is the largest free hot air balloon event in the world. Each morning, around 100 hot air balloons rise in mass ascension from Rancho San Rafael Park, filling the dawn sky with blobs of color and flashes of light from the propane burners. You have to get up before dawn to enjoy the most spectacular events like the Glow Show and Dawn Patrol. The mass ascension of more than 100 hot air balloons takes place as the sun comes up over the Virginia Range, but even then it's pretty early.
Proceeds from the sale of this photograph goes to help orphaned and abandoned children in Colombia South America.
